Basically All I really ate was soup (Campbells Chicken and Stars through a straw works well), mashed potatoes, and ice chips. One night I got out of bed at least 15 times to pee, because all I had in my body was liquid.
I felt like the days just ticked by, I could barely talk comfortably, eating was painstaking because I could feel the food touching the back of my gauze stuffed sinuses, and I was not sleeping. The other thing that really helped was the constant visits from my friends who helped me pass the time and who brought gifts of flowers, a cookie bouquet, food, cards, and nursing care. One friend came over and washed my hair one day (needed it!). Another friend brought movies, her dog, and a coloring book (LOL!). My cousin, who was my constant companion, fed me large doses of opiates until my eyes rolled back into my head, and my Aunt and Dad made sure all my friends were well fed.
Getting the packing out was like something out of a horror movie. Fist they cut the stitches from the septum which was really just uncomfortable with a little bit of a pinching feeling. When they pulled the gauze out it felt like they were removing my brain. It was the strangest and most vile feeling. It felt like a long scabby, slimy snake being pulled out of my nose past my throat and back of my eyeballs. I had taken 2 Valium before the appointment but was still horrified. They put tape on my nose before I left, so I barely go a chance to see it before I left. Lots of stitches were still in there, to annoy me for another 4 days. They were supposed to dissolve but didn't so i had to get them removed in another couple of days.
Here are some pics from that week. They are basically in chronological order from days 3-6. Day 6 are the one with no cast.

Day 8 Bruising looks worse but it actually at this point was getting much better each day. Each day I woke up it was about 50% better than the night before. VERY swollen from front view but side view was amazingly straight. I think I look like an alien here.
